Impella is a temporary microaxial catheter-based mechanical circulatory support device that pumps blood via continuous flow from the left ventricle into the aorta. It is used for patients with reduced left ventricular function or as support during cardiology and cardiothoracic surgical procedures. On the Slovak market, the categorized models include the Impella CP with Smart Assist, providing an average flow rate of up to 3.7 L/min, and the surgical Impella 5.5 with Smart Assist, providing an average flow rate of up to 5.5 L/min.
